Transfer Credit

External Transfer Credit and Course Waivers

Requests for transfer credits from external institutions are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and are not guaranteed even if the following criteria are met. A maximum of 12 credit hours can be transferred into a graduate degree. Transfer credit requests should be submitted within the graduate degree admissions application portal, after an application is submitted. If approved, credit hours transferred are equivalent to the credit hours taken at your previous institution.

Minimum criteria for consideration:

• Institution must be AACSB accredited.
• Course(s) cannot have been previously applied towards a degree or other transcripted credential.
• Course(s) must have been taken at the graduate level.
• Course(s) must have been completed within the past 4 years.
• Grade earned in course must be A- or better.
• A syllabus and transcript must be submitted for consideration.
• The iMSA program will not consider transfer credit requests for core courses, only electives.
• The MSBAi program will not consider any courses for transfer credit. 

Internal Transfer Credit

Learners may request credits taken under one Gies Online program code to be transferred to a different program code, such as non-degree or Performance-based Admissions Track (PAT) to degree, via a Graduate Student Petition. Learners stacking a credential into another credential, such as iMSM into iMBA, do not need to transfer credits. Only 50% of the total credit hours for a program can be transferred.

Petitions should be submitted after a learner completes their first term in their new program. Learners should be specific about the courses and credit total they are wishing to transfer.
