Academic Integrity

The Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois is committed to an engaging, high quality graduate student experience. Learners in Gies Graduate Programs have a responsibility to respect the work of others and maintain professional ethical values. All Illinois students abide by the Academic Integrity Policy and Procedures as listed in the Student Code of Conduct.

Academic integrity violations occur when a learner engages in dishonest conduct in their academic work. This includes, but is not limited to, cheating, plagiarism, fabrication, and facilitating infractions of academic integrity. Learners should review the Quick Reference Guide to Academic Integrity to review the process if found in violation of the University’s academic integrity policy. All graduate learners may access the University of Illinois Academic Integrity course to receive additional information on academic integrity policies.

Academic Integrity Violation Process

• Notification of Allegation: If a learner is accused of an academic integrity violation, the instructor will notify the learner in writing. The learner must continue attending class during the review process. An academic hold is placed on their student account so courses cannot be added or dropped during an open case.
• Response: The learner has ten (10) business days to submit a written response to the instructor, providing all relevant information, materials, and witness statements.
• Instructor Review & Decision: The instructor will review the response, make a decision based on the preponderance of evidence, and communicate their findings to the learner.
• Possible Sanctions or Appeals: If an infraction is confirmed, the instructor may impose sanctions, which could range from a written agreement to failure in the course. If the learner disagrees with the decision, they can appeal to the Executive Officer (EO) of the department or College.
