Gies Business welcomed into CFA Institute University Affiliation Program

May 1, 2019, 10:04 by System
As part of the College’s focus on access, innovation, and excellence undergraduate finance students will have new opportunities to build career success.

The bachelor of science in finance at Gies College of Business was named to the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program on April 26. As part of the College’s focus on access, innovation, and excellence, Gies Business incorporated at least 70 percent of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) and placed emphasis on the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice within the undergraduate finance program. This positions students well to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, which has become the most respected and recognized investment credential in the world.

CFA_UAP-Logo_vertical_RGBEntry into the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program signals to potential students, employers, and the marketplace that the Gies curriculum is closely tied to professional practice and prepares students well to sit for the CFA examinations. Through participation in this program, students are also eligible to receive a limited number of student scholarships for the CFA Program each year.

Finance majors at Gies Business develop the skills to assist organizations and individuals with the acquisition and management of funds. With a bachelor of science in finance from Gies, students gain the skills to analyze financial data and to determine the value of assets and the return on risk that guide decisions for organizations.

“We are proud to produce an undergraduate program in finance that teaches financial theory to students who then use it to guide the profession forward,” said Sterling Raskie, lecturer of finance at Gies. “Our connection to the CFA Institute University Affiliation Program only enhances our ability as educators and our students’ ability as learners.”
