Application to be a Student Speaker at Convocation

Applications are now open to audition to be the student speaker at the Gies December 2026 Convocation Ceremony! If you're interested, please submit your audition via Zoom by midnight on Friday, October 23. As a part of your submission, you will also need to upload a copy of your written speech in a Word or PDF format. Please refer to the criteria requirements and guidelines for speech content in the audition link prior to submission.

Join current iMBA learner Robert Wang, MD, FRCSC, FAAOS, for a moderated discussion exploring the transition from clinical practice to administrative and leadership roles in healthcare. Rob is an Orthopedic and Arthroscopic Reconstructive & Shoulder Surgeon with Mackenzie Health.

The conversation will focus on lessons learned along the way, transferable skills from clinical roles, and the new knowledge and capabilities healthcare professionals develop as they move into leadership and administrative positions.

How Gies Business iMBA Elevated Butrymovich’s Career from a Mountaintop

While earning her Gies iMBA, Olivia Butrymovich (MBA ’26) balanced coursework with her role managing communications and philanthropy at Copper Mountain Resort, where she helped host world-class ski events featuring elite athletes. Drawn to the program’s flexibility and affordability, Butrymovich was able to apply what she learned directly to her work, using skills in project management, leadership, and business strategy to take on greater responsibilities. She credits the iMBA with giving her a stronger understanding of the business behind the ski industry and greater confidence in conversations with company leadership. Her experience demonstrates how an MBA can help professionals grow within a field they already love while preparing for future opportunities. Read the article here.

Changing the Game: Gies MSM Grad Sam Phillips Advocates for LGBTQ+ Athletes

Sam Phillips (MSM ’26) is putting the skills he gained through Gies Business to work as a Development Associate with Athlete Ally, where he supports LGBTQ+ inclusion in collegiate and professional sports. His journey from All-American gymnast to advocate reflects resilience, leadership, and a commitment to creating more inclusive spaces for athletes. Recently honored with the Billie Jean King Youth Leadership Award at the ESPYs, Phillips continues to use his voice and business expertise to drive meaningful change. Through his work, he hopes to help create a future where athletes can compete and lead as their authentic selves. Read the article here.
