Digital Marketing Changes Reflected in Degree Planner
We wanted to follow up on the recent update regarding the schedule changes for MBA 542: Digital Marketing Analytics and MBA 545: Marketing in Our New Digital World, which will take effect starting in Spring 2026.

These changes are now reflected in the Gies Student Portal degree planning tool. If you previously had either of these courses in your degree planner under the old schedule, they have been removed to align with the updated offering times in 2026. You can review the new 2026 schedule
here. If you need assistance with updating your plan, please do not hesitate to reach out to a Student and Academic Success Specialist.
 
MOOC Launch for ACCY 593
We are excited to announce that the first and second MOOCs for ACCY 593: AI in Business: Fundamentals, Applications, and the Future have launched. This innovative new course will be taught by Professor Robert Brunner, and begins on March 19.  Access both MOOCs today and review a quick course introduction video with Professor Brunner that discusses key course topics and impact.

Spring 2 Soft Launch
Soft launch starts Wednesday, March 12 in both Canvas and Coursera platforms for courses that begin on March 19. For learners who registered two weeks before the course start date, soft launch allows you to view your registered classes, giving you the opportunity to review your syllabi and expectations before the official start date. 
 
Grouping Preference Form
At the beginning of each 8-week session, you should update your availability for your course groups on the Grouping Preference Form. The grouping preference tool translates your time preferences into UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) so you can be grouped in your courses with individuals with similar availability around the globe. Take a moment today to finalize your availability!
 
Spring 2025 Digital Specialization Certificate Release
Gies Online is pleased to celebrate learners achieving milestones in their specialization coursework. Approximately, four weeks after final grades are released at the end of the Spring 2025 semester, eligible learners who have completed a specialization area in Spring 2025 will be sent a digital specialization certificate via Accredible to their Illinois email addresses.  
 
Graduate College: US Immigration Options Webinar
Are you interested in securing full-time employment in the United States? Find out what you need to know about U.S. immigration policies to make a smooth transition. The Graduate College is hosting a webinar on Tuesday, March 25, from 4:00 - 5:00 pm CT. This presentation will discuss the H-1B petition process for full-time hires and options for permanent residence in the U.S. The speaker will be Thomas Arkell, an attorney practicing immigration and employment law. No registration required. This session will be broadcast online at https://go.grad.illinois.edu/eventspace.
 
Save the Date: Gies Dallas Business Reception with Dean W. Brooke Elliott
Mark your calendars for a Gies Business reception in Dallas to meet with Dean W. Brooke Elliott, hear an update on the College, network with fellow learners and alumni, and reconnect with the College. The event will take place on Wednesday, April 9 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm CT at House of Blues Dallas (2200 N. Lamar Dallas, TX 75202). Save the date and registration information will be shared soon. 
 
Retail App Outage has Surprising Impact on In-Store Shopping
Gies assistant professor Unnati Narang has a long standing interest in retail. Her research examines the effect on customer shopping habits when retail apps experience outages. Read more about her surprising findings here.
