Holiday Closure: Labor Day
The University will be closed Monday, September 4, to honor the US labor movement and the contribution of workers to US society. Please refer to your course syllabi for assignment deadlines and live session schedules. University offices will be closed, and responses via email will be delayed during this time. We look forward to interacting with you on Tuesday, September 5 when the University reopens. Please note that there will be no newsletter sent on Monday, September 4.
 
Summer 2023 Digital Specialization Certificates Sent Next Week
Gies Online is pleased to celebrate learners achieving milestones in their specialization coursework. Next week, eligible learners who have completed a specialization area in Summer 2023 will be sent Specialization Certificates via Accredible to their Illinois email addresses. Learn how to share your credentials with your network via Accredible.
 
Gies Download: Robert Brunner
Robert Brunner is the Associate Dean for Innovation and Chief Disruption Officer at Gies. With a penchant for forward-thinking and for futuristic technologies like artificial intelligence, Chat GPT, and blockchain, Robert is helping lead the college and its students into the unknown. It's a side of higher education that few other business schools even recognize, much less adopt. Robert was the guest on the latest episode of the Gies Download.
 
Improve Your Writing at the Writers Workshop
Beginning August 23, students can schedule in-person, online, or written feedback appointments at the Writers Workshop to receive feedback on their writing. View this calendar for upcoming workshops and writing groups.
 
Gies Research Reveals AI Chatbots Influence Racial Stereotypes
Associate Professor of Business Administration and Bruce and Anne Strohm Faculty Fellow, Tiffany  Whiteconducted a study with a team of researchers that showed consumers’ perceptions of chatbots differ from their racial biases toward people. Read their paper here.
 
Mexico City In-Person Immersion
The registration deadline for the Mexico City in-person immersion was on August 23. Learners who applied will be notified of your acceptance by September 13thIf demand exceeds capacity, we will give priority based on credits earned in the program. If you are not selected to participate, your deposit will be refunded.
