| Summer 2023 Courses Begin | Summer courses begin this week on Wednesday, May 17. Remember that the summer semester has only one 8 week term. Please be sure to check your course start and end dates for the summer term as some course start dates may vary. Online Programs utilizes dual platforms with Canvas and Coursera. Make sure to access your course in both platforms to be successful.
| | Update Your Grouping Preference Form | | At the beginning of each 8-week session, you should update your availability on the Grouping Preference Form. The grouping preference tool translates your time preferences into UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) so you can be grouped with individuals with similar availability around the globe. Take a moment today to finalize your availability! |
| | New Drop and Withdrawal Refund Guides | For your convenience, the Office of the Registrar has created two course refund guides that outline the specific drop dates and withdrawal dates for each course. Just go to “non-standard courses” and search by course number. Please note that there are two separate refund guides for drops and withdrawals and you can refer to our Dropping Courses and Refunds page about the difference between a drop, withdrawal, and cancellation. As an additional resource, our event calendar posts the academic drop deadlines by course start date.

| Applications to Serve on the 2023-2024 Graduate Student Advisory Board | The Graduate College invites graduate students enrolled in on-campus or online programs to apply to serve on SAGE (Students Advising on Graduate Education) in 2022-2023. SAGE members build leadership skills and provide varied perspectives that enhance the academic, professional, and social experiences of graduate students at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Meetings are hybrid or virtual. Applications are due by Tuesday, May 30 at 11:59 pm CT. Apply here.

iDegree Workshop: Immersion Opportunities within Gies Online | Thursday, May 18 | 11:00 am CT | Register Here
Gies Online offers Immersion trips virtually and in person, domestically and globally where students can learn about industries outside those in which they currently work and understand business and economics in our host countries. Join us to hear from Rachel Ward, Assistant Director of Operations, who oversees the immersion opportunities. We will also hear from a student ambassador who has completed an immersion trip and learn about the requirements, benefits, and successes they have experienced from micro and global immersions. |

| In Case You Missed It... | | Your Canvas Course Page Has a Time Limit | Canvas course pages are available for eight weeks from the end of the last course module, as stated in each course syllabus. After eight weeks from the end date, you will no longer have access to your course(s) dashboard in Canvas. Save any documents before that date for your personal archives.

| Larry Gies Is a "Superstar in the Classroom" | | Poets & Quants featured Larry Gies in a story on his recent visit to teach in a FIN 423: Entrepreneurial Finance class. Larry has been a regular guest speaker in the course for 30 years. He assigns the students a case study, runs a simulated auction to acquire a company, and shares with the students how they can find meaning and purpose in their work. Read more. |

The University of Illinois will be closed on Monday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth, a National Holiday in the United States.

| Deadline to Apply to Graduate in August 2023 | June 30 | Apply to Graduate
For August 2023 graduates to be awarded their degree, they will need to apply to graduate on student self-service by June 30. This application will not register you for the May or December 2023 convocation ceremony.

| Brazil Immersion | July 29-August 5
|
| August 2023 Degree Conferral | August 7
The University will begin to confer degrees for August 2023 graduates starting on August 7, but it may take longer for the degree to be officially awarded.
