Holiday Closure Reminder - Election Day
The University will be closed on Tuesday, November 8 for Election Day, a state holiday. University offices will be closed, and there will be no advising services offered. Please refer to your course syllabi for assignment deadlines and live session schedules.

Apply to join iVenture Accelerator's 9th cohort in May 2023! Applications come in three waves, and Wave 1 applications will close on Sunday, November 13, at 11:59 pm. Selected teams receive up to $20,000 in funding and extensive resources to support project development. Apply here.

Xiangyi Spencer, Teaching Assistant Professor of Finance
Professor Xiangyi Spencer earned her PhD in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has been teaching at Gies since 2014. She teaches courses on investments and portfolio management as well and corporate finance. Professor Spencer was a 2019-2020 Dean's Impact Award Recipient.

Numbers by themselves don't move hearts and minds. Consequently, encouraging data-driven decisions in organizations goes beyond extracting insight from data. In this webinar, Ron and Michael will discuss the importance of telling stories in tandem with presenting data. They will share experiences, principles, and tips for using data to motivate improvement.

SCD’s Lunchtime Learner Workshops engage learners in activities and experience practices associated with the six mindsets around human-centered design: the Human-Centered mindset, the Collaborative mindset, the Communicative mindset, the Creative mindset, the Experimental mindset and the Metacognitive mindset. These standalone sessions are open to University of Illinois students, faculty, and staff interested in learning more about human-centered design and its mindsets. Learners attend in-person or via Zoom.

Houston Immersion - January 4-7, 2023
January 4-7, 2023
Please join us for our immersion trip to Houston where you will have the opportunity to put your iDegrees education to practice in person with your classmates.  This 3-day course will be truly immersive, educational, and fun!  Please travel to Houston by January 4.  That evening, Gies will host a welcome dinner and introduce you to our action-packed itinerary and course objectives. We will work alongside a Houston based company to solve a current business change focused on the convergence of technology and new innovation.   

Fee: $1,700 based upon double occupancy. We are currently waiting on the room rate for a single room as well as the optional one night longer stay. Details about both of those rates will be available the week of November 28.   Please note that the cost of airfare to and from Houston is at your own expense.  Trips fees will be assessed to your student account.   
How can I register?
To secure your spot, please register and submit a $100 non-refundable deposit by 
completing this form before Wednesday, November 16. You will be notified of your acceptance by Tuesday, November 29. If demand exceeds capacity, we will give priority based on seniority (credits earned) in the program.  If you are not selected, your deposit will be refunded.  
If an iMBA degree student, does this course count as credit toward my capstones?
If successfully completed, immersions can count for ONE of the two required specialization capstone courses. Students cannot use the immersion for the program capstone. Students can participate in more than one global immersion, however only one will count as a specialization capstone course.   Students are welcome to participate in the immersion regardless of whether if it counts as a specialization capstone.

Spring Registration Opens This Month!
Spring 2023 registration for first and second 8-week courses begins this month! Begin preparing for registration by locating your specific time-ticket in either Self-Service or the Degree Planner and exploring all course options, using the course offering guide to view the course dates and live session information. Some courses may reach capacity, so we recommend that you register as soon as your time ticket opens. If you need assistance in selecting courses or registering, please connect with the Student & Academic Success Specialist team
Announcing the iDegrees Graduate Business Association (iGBA)
The iGBA is an official university registered student organization (RSO) exclusively for currently enrolled iDegrees graduate students. The iGBA replaces the iDegrees Student Council as the official voice of currently enrolled iMBA, iMSA, and iMSM students to Gies College of Business and University administration. The iGBA serves four pillars: Professional Development, Degree and Program Development, Student Experience, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. How to Win $50K For Your Startup Idea
BIG IdeaBounce® is a pitch contest open to all current undergraduate and graduate school students or any prospect interested in a graduate business school degree (enter here). There are three rounds to the competition, starting with the submission of your idea in an easy-to-complete online form that is open through January 15th, 2023. The top 20 teams will then be asked to submit a two-minute pitch video.
