New Building Approved by the Board of Trustees |
Dear Gies learners, You may have heard about our plans to build a new facility next door to BIF. Those plans were solidified on Thursday when the University of Illinois Board of Trustees officially approved the construction of this new building. We are very excited to be making this investment in our shared future! The South Campus Center for Interdisciplinary Learning (SCCIL; pronounced “skill”) will be constructed on the space that is currently a parking lot just west of the Business Instructional Facility. We anticipate a groundbreaking ceremony in spring 2023 and construction will begin soon after. Completion is expected in spring 2025. This will be a learner-focused building with multiuse classrooms and collaborative spaces for our on-campus learners, and expanded studio facilities to serve our growing online learner population. Our experiential learning and professional development teams will also be housed in the building. It will also have plenty of space for our growing faculty. We will continue to share more information with you as this project moves forward. This building will be yet another reason learners like you choose Gies for your business education – whether on campus or online. It supports our mission of shaping purposeful leaders and providing life-changing access to a quality business education. We hope you will take pride in the mission of Gies Business. Go Gies! The Gies Download: Executive Associate Dean Brooke Elliott |
It’s fascinating to compare what many people plan to do with their lives and what people actually do with their lives. For Brooke Elliott-- EY Distinguished Professor in Accounting and executive associate dean of academic programs--her dream wasn’t necessarily to break gender barriers in the highest echelons of academia but that’s exactly what happened. She's our guest today on The Gies Download. |
