Upcoming MOOC Revisions
Planning to get a head start on your MOOCs? Please be aware that the following MOOCs are undergoing updates and revisions:
  • MBA 543: Digital Media and Marketing
  • BDI 577: Disruption and Emerging Technologies
  • MBA 563: Data Toolkit: Business Data Modeling and Predictive Analytics
  • MBA 564 A: Applying Data Analytics in Marketing
  • MBA 564 B: Applying Data Analytics in Accounting
If you are not currently enrolled in the high-engagement portion of these courses, we recommend waiting to work ahead until the updated MOOCs are released.

If you’ve previously completed one or more of these MOOCs and earned the certificate(s), they will still be recognized as complete toward your for-credit course. However, you will be responsible for and expected to engage with any new or revised content when you take the for-credit course. The updated MOOCs are expected to launch prior to the next course offering. 
 
Gies Student Portal Maintenance
The Gies Student Portal, which houses the Degree Planning Tool and the Grouping Preference Form, will be unavailable starting tomorrow, July 8, at 6:00 pm CT due to scheduled maintenance and system updates. Access will resume after midnight on July 9. Please plan ahead if you need to use the portal during this time. We appreciate your patience during this brief downtime.

Strategic Storytelling: Interviewing
An effective interview should demonstrate why you're a good fit for a role and leave the interviewers excited about the prospect of working with you. But actually achieving this goal can be a challenge. In this workshop, we'll discuss strategies for preparing yourself for job interviews, and techniques for answering different types of questions by telling your professional story in compelling ways. Summer 2025 Digital Specialization Certificate Release Next Month 
Gies Online is pleased to celebrate learners achieving milestones in their specialization coursework. Approximately four weeks after final grades are released, eligible learners who have completed a specialization area in Summer 2025 will be sent a digital specialization certificates via Accredible to their Illinois email addresses. Learn how to share your credentials with your network via Accredible
 
Your Canvas Course Page Has a Time Limit
Canvas course pages are available for eight weeks from the end of the last course module, as stated in each course syllabus. After eight weeks from the end date, you will no longer have access to your course(s) dashboard in Canvas. Save any documents before that date for your personal archives. Your access to course content and videos in Coursera will not expire.

Academic Founders Build Broader Tech, New Study Finds
Gies Assistant Professor of Business Administration Shinjinee Chattopadhyay with coauthors Florence Honoré (Wisconsin School of Business, University of Wisconsin-Madison) and Shinjae Won (School of Labor and Employment Relations, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign) published a study in the Strategic Management Journal that aims to answer the question of how a founder's background shapes the reach of their technology. Data Analytics Expert Explores Value of User-Owned AI
Gies College of Business recently hosted a pioneering discussion about how consumers can reclaim ownership of their data and benefit from AI models built upon it. The session, featuring Anna Kazlauskas, Open Data Labs CEO and creator of Vana, was organized by Vishal Sachdev, clinical associate professor of business administration at Gies Business who teaches MBA 590: Digital Marketing Capstone. Faculty and students from various disciplines explored the revolutionary potential of decentralized data systems and their implications for the future of AI development. We invite first-generation graduate learners—those who are the first in their family to pursue a graduate degree—to grab a coffee or tea and join our recruitment team, along with your fellow current learners who are also first-generation graduate learners, for a coffee chat. This session will explore the challenges faced by first-generation learners and highlight strategies for success in graduate education. You'll also learn about the support services available and gain insight into what it’s like to be a first-generation learner in Gies Online programs.
